A POETIC DOCUMENTARY

INVISIBLE FORCES BEYOND OUR CONCEPTION

Invisible Forces Beyond Our Conception (7 min) is an experimental short film using dance, spoken word, and moving image to tell a true story of the invisible toll of remote work on people around the world.

Based on interviews with real workers around the world, this film is an illustration of the impact that remote contract work can have across generations and geographies. It takes special focus on a little-known form of contracting known as invisible work, where employees are subcontracted to work for some of the world’s largest corporations without benefits, credit or recognition as employees.

Through a parallel audio and visual journey, this experimental documentary uses true testimonies to tell a vulnerable story of isolation, deception, and the dark underbelly of the so-called dreamy remote job.

The film’s narration is directly extracted from interviews, performed by actors to preserve participants’ anonymity, while dancers embody the turmoil, frustration, numbness, and apathy that charged the original accounts. Like the lived experience of invisibility — the human isn’t be seen in detail at all. Bodies are transformed into silhouettes, obscuring the individual. No one is fully seen, but their movement and words tell all.

I wrote, directed and edited this experimental documentary with an exceptional 15 person crew and 8 talented performers, seeing the project through development and fundraising to production and post-production.
